A List of All the Things We Love

Pride, Pride, Pride!

Hooray for Pride Month! We're so excited to be up and running in Oakland this year for 2014 San Francisco Pride! At the salon, we celebrate self in all its beauty, whatever gender identity or sexual orientation that encompasses. Maybe you'll want to get your hair colored for the "Color Our World with Pride" parade on Sunday! (Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?) If not, we still plan to contribute to the movement on June 27th, by donating 10% of all the salon's proceeds that day to Butch Voices, an Oakland-based, super rad LGBTQ and Allies collective that offers programs to build community, positive visibility, and empowerment for women, female-bodied, and trans-identified individuals who lean toward the masculine side of the gender scale. Contact us for an appointment!

We <3 Aveda

You can't truly love another until you love yourself. And at Manifesta, we believe you can't truly love yourself until you love your hair! So love your hair up with our new Aveda product: Smooth Infusion, Naturally Straight. This styling product works with heat, not against it, to gradually straighten your hair over time. So the more you use it, the straighter your hair will become! It's the perfect summer product - working as a styling super power against the heat of the sun! It also works as a great shape holder for those who use styling tools such as a flat iron.

Feelin' the 'Festa

Do you love our 'Festa programs as much as we do? Learn some of the business skills that make 'Festa what it is today when you attend a class on the Principles of Money taught by our business strategist, Susan Mills. Money can be a complex issue, with emotions, values, morals, and goals tied up in how you use it. In her class, Susan will be offering insight on how to prioritize money for your small business in a way that considers your business ethics, upholds responsibility, and provides rational, positive outcomes for everyone involved. More than just a class, however, this is an opportunity for you to donate to the 'Festa Fund, with 1/3 of the proceeds going to the development of future 'Festa programs. If you love our programs, classes, and pop-ups and want to see more of us moving forward, come join us for the class at the salon on July 7th, from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Registration for this class costs $75 and requires you to contact K.C. Lutes at festa.oak@gmail.com ahead of time.

Swoon for the Moon

As the full moon rose high over Old Oakland on Friday the 13th, all of us at 'Festa were so very excited to say hello to our brand new pop-up, Fat and the Moon. Stop by and shop any of their delicious, herbal-based products such as cream deodorant, dry shampoo, pimple mud, sage & rose facial mist. dream weaver mist, eye coal, and lip & cheek stain.

Friends with Crafty Benefits

Remember our friends Ilah and Mim? They're here all month, selling their artwork, greeting cards, fiber arts, and crafts! Ilah has been around all month, hosting a beginning crochet class on June 8th and a beginning watercolor class on June 22nd. Some people believe the way to a person's heart is through their stomach, and that art is the language of the soul. Feed your stomach and your soul this Sunday, June 29th at 1pm at Ilah's Crafts and Cookies event! No need to be an expert - this class is open to all levels, including beginners at art and cookie eating! Advanced registration is required, which you can do by contacting K.C. Lutes at festa.oak@gmail.com.

Love Thy Neighbor

A big part of what makes Manifesta so special is the Old Oakland neighborhood we live in! We want to congratulate our neighbor Sobu this month on opening their new location in Rockridge! Whether you're moving homes yourself or looking to zest up your apartment's style, this bohemian furniture and design company is well worth a visit on your way to the salon. You may have also noticed events cropping up in the neighborhood sponsored by Marion & Rose's Workshop, another local company that sells crafted items made by a select group of American designers, artisans, and craftspeople. Follow their Facebook page to keep up with all the fun stuff they're doing! We'd also like to give a shout out to Crown Nine, a jewelry boutique and art gallery that sells stunning pieces in the neighborhood, and The Flora Cultural Society, a flower farm and shop that enhances our senses with classes, products, and the sweet aromas of nature.

Wherever you decide to spread the love this month, we're happy to have you as our clients, friends, and neighbors. As always, feel free to let us love you more by "liking" us on Facebook and Twitter!
