1. Have realistic expectations.
Stylists book kids cuts for half the time and half the price of an adult haircut for a good reason. Most children can't or won't sit still long enough to receive the same style you would give them as an adult, so don't aim for something that complicated.
2. Kids hairstyles should work for them, not against them.
If your kid is pretty active, as most kids are, then you'll want to consider a short cut or something that can fit easily into a ponytail (i.e. not too many layers).
3. The style is ultimately the kid's decision.
"Every kid is different," says Lindsay. "I cut a little boy's hair who loved to wear pigtail braids, and I've met a little girl who loved her mommy-look-alike pixie!"
If your kid is into it, try something non-traditional! A pixie cut on a little girl or long locks on a boy can be really cute! But of course, the style is ultimately up to the kid.
4. Accessorize when needed.
Got a kid with no hair? Accessories are awesome! If you're looking for something besides a hat, try a headband! Our Manifesta baby Beau rocks his homemade headband with the knot in the back to keep it "manly" (and gangsta!).
